The agreement also includes the creation of a theme park.
Madrid, Spain.- As part of the activities scheduled for the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2025), the Punta Bergantín tourism project signed new agreements, one with the Velutini Group and the Excel Group to develop a hotel, and the other with the ITM operator to create a theme park, initiatives that are added to the two hotel projects confirmed last year.
The hotel will be the Westin Puerto Plata, an all-inclusive with 450 rooms, the first of this American brand to be built on the Dominican North Coast. The Velutini Group has investments in shopping centers in the Dominican Republic, including one located in Santo Domingo on the central Winston Churchill Avenue and the other in Punta Cana, close to the International Airport of that tourist center.
The theme park will offer four environments inspired by Dominican identity, folklore, culture and biodiversity, combining sun, sea and land. It will also have facilities for offering shows, an interactive aquarium, recreational pools, and access to the resort's beach.
ITM is the company that operates the cruise ports in Puerto Plata and Cabo Rojo. In the latter, it offers cruise passengers various entertainment options. This operator is also involved in the rehabilitation of the Arroyo Barril port in Samaná, where an amusement park will be built.
Both announcements were made by the CEO of Banreservas, Samuel Pereyra, in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, David Collado; and Andrés Marranzini, of the Bergantín project. The Velutini Group was represented by Paula Cerrillo and Pamela Vásquez, from Marriot; and by Alberto Cruz, from Excel; and the ITM Group, by Mauricio Hamui.
The Westin Puerto Plata is the third hotel planned for Punta Bergantín. The first is part of the “Inclusive Collection” brand, belonging to Hyatt, an investment agreed last year with the Martinón Group of Spain, which owns other hotel properties in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The second hotel, also agreed upon last year, is a Meliá brand hotel and is a joint investment between Meliá International Hotels and the Puntacana Group to develop a 400-room hotel.
Punta Bergantín is an initiative of the Dominican government, structured with the economic and professional support of Grupo Reservas, designed to attract a diversified private investment that will include, in addition to hotel and residential development, an 18-hole golf course, an academic campus aimed at promoting education and innovation, a film studio and adequate road infrastructure.
This project has an area of 10 million square meters, surrounded by an environment of great beauty, with an excellent beach. Its master plan preserves natural beauty, with low urban density, combining hotels, recreational areas, horizontal and vertical housing, and promoting a first-class real estate and tourist destination.
